Make It: Apple Cinnamon Ornaments

Are you hosting a shower this holiday season? Wishing you had a perfect, memorable, seasonal favor to give to your guests? Look no further, I’ve got your answer here! These apple-cinnamon scented ornaments are beautiful, functional, and simple—your guests are sure to love them!

Apple Cinnamon Ornaments

These ornaments are extremely easy to make, but they do require quite a bit of drying time—allow yourself at least 24 hours before your shower to complete this project.

1/2 cup applesauce
1/2 cup cinnamon
1 Tbsp white glue (such as Elmer’s)

(Or any amount of applesauce and cinnamon, actually, so long as you use equal amounts.)

Dump all your ingredients in a large bowl and mix everything together until it’s well-blended and comes together as a dough. Next, roll or pat the dough out until it’s 1/3-1/2 inch thick.–I do this right on the table or counter. Use seasonal cookie cutters to cut out the shapes you’d like your ornaments to be, re-rolling the scraps as many times as you like. Set the cut shapes on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Punch a hole to string a ribbon through for hanging (I use a straw.)

At this point, you can either let them sit out for a LONG time (24+ hours), flipping them over often so both sides get dry, or you can bake them at 200º until they’re hard. I highly recommend baking them because it makes your house smell wonderful!

When they’re dry, string them on ribbon or twine or whatever you desire, and you’re done! (Another cute idea, if you want them to look like gingerbread, is to pipe white puffy paint around the edges before you string them to look like frosting.)

All that’s left is to package your yummy-smelling ornaments (Ahem: might I suggest these Big Dot of Happiness Holiday Personalized Favor Boxes? – You have to check them out they are AMAZING!), and they’re all set for your guests to take home and hang wherever a little apple-cinnamony cheer is needed. Enjoy!
