You’ll Need:

  • Pretzels (any size will work)
  • Chocolate almond bark
  • Red candy melts
  • Black frosting
  • White frosting

Instructions:

Begin by dipping your pretzels entirely in red candy melt. Following the package directions, liquefy your red candy melts in a microwave-safe container. Being careful not to burn your skin on the now-hot red liquid, dip each pretzel completely in the red candy melt and place on a sheet of parchment paper to dry. Repeat using as many pretzels as you’d like to decorate. Wait about 20 minutes for the red candy melt to harden.

Once the red candy melt has hardened, dip the lower third of your pretzel into chocolate almond bark. Following the package directions, liquefy your almond bark in a microwave-safe container. Being careful not to burn your fingertips in the now-hot liquid, dip the lower third of each pretzel into the almond bark and place on a sheet of parchment paper to dry. Repeat until all of your pretzels are complete. Wait about 20 minutes for the almond bark to harden.

Once the almond bark has hardened, warm two tubes of black and white frosting by rubbing them between your palms (this will make it easier to get a clean dot each time). Begin by dotting the red “wings” of each pretzel with the black frosting, then follow by dotting the brown “heads” of each pretzel with two dabs of white frosting to create “eyes.” Although the red candy melt and chocolate almond bark dried quickly, I found that refrigerating the completed pretzels for a few hours ensured that the frosting dots hardened completely.

When your pretzels are completely dry, it takes only a few moments to place a few pretzel treats into a clear favor bag, then tie the bag with a red or black ribbon and decorate it with a coordinating Modern Ladybug die-cut card stock tag from BigDotofHappiness.com. These ladybug party favors can be displayed in a pretty bowl or basket for guests to take on their way out, or added to a red and black candy buffet along with other ladybug party supplies.
